The cats are known as independent and sometimes aloof, but the truth is that, they like affection as much as dogs want it too, it is just not the same way. Cats do not wag their tails and jump all over but they desire to feel connected, comfortable and bond. Learning to express love in a way that both of you get will create a firm trusting relationship that will leave both of you happier. These are seven easy ways to show the cat that you love him.
1. Slow blinks – the ‘cat kiss’
Do you have the feeling that your cat is looking at you already, and then the eyelids slowly descend and open again? It is how a cat tells you that it trusts you and it is commonly referred to as the cat kiss. All you can do in response is to slowly blink back at them. Now close your eyes a moment, and look into the face of your cat, and then reopen them. It can seem ridiculous, yet the reaction of many cats is blinking back or calming down as usual. They do it in order to spend a quiet moment together.
2. Respect their space
Contrary to dogs, most cats do not like being inflicted upon to be hugged and kissed. They prefer love on their conditions. There is no better approach to express your love than by giving them their personal space. You can allow your cat to approach you when they feel like petting or cuddling. Do not push them to stick around when they walk away. Eventually they will learn that you will not overwork them and therefore they will be more apt to approach you when they need attention.
3. Gentle head and chin scratches
Cats especially catches pleasure when they are scratched at some particular areas like under the chin, behind the ear and at the top of the head. These are the places where they have scent glands and so by scratching these places, it is more like communicating with them as well as it is quite comforting and also in a way marking you as part of their family. Conversely, there are numerous cats that do not love to have their belly rubbed. Where a dog may roll onto his back with paws in the air because he wants you to stroke his belly, to a cat an exposed belly is often an invitation to mistrust, not pet. Never ignore their body language and quit when they seem to be uncomfortable.
4. Playtime = quality time
A very effective method of bonding with your cat is play. It connects with their instincts of hunting and keeps them fit and agile as well as mentally alert. Feed them with feather wands, or toy mice, or a crumpled a bit of paper so that they are curious to find out what it is. Devote some time every day to play, at least 15 minutes. Your cat will enjoy running, and attacking and you will enhance your bond with you as you join in their amusements.
5. Provide cozy spaces
Cats are most comfortable when they are free to find the places to rest and hide. The bed should be a soft place that will allow your cat to feel calm and the corner of a quiet place, sunny windowsill or tall cat tree where they can observe the world and feel safe. Once you provide these comfortable areas you will demonstrate that you care about their convenience and health. You will see them very often curled up there, and purring.
6. Talk to them softly
It may not come as a shock, however, cats know your voice and react to it. By talking to them calmly and gently, they are assured and will get to know you better. Other cats even appear to chirp or even meow in answering. Experiment and tell them what you are up to at home or saying hello by their name when you enter. This gradual and tender communication causes them to feel wanted and welcomed.
7. Treats and special meals
Just in the same way that people will have a snack sometimes, cats also find a good snack tasty. Healthy treats are a wonderful idea to strengthen the positive relationships and express care in moderate measure. You may even set aside some special snack later after playtime or grooming to make a positive association. Just make sure you do not overdo it because of too much treat might cause weight gain. Never follow the feeding instructions on the package or the vet.
Building a loving bond, one day at a time
Each cat is an individual. Others are cuddly lap cats and others like to sit close but not touch. Paying attention to what your cat feels happy and safe is the main thing. Getting to know their preferences, paying love in their cat-delighting methods, you will establish the relationship with them based on trust, comfort, and pleasure.
